As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Chandauli had a population of 20,071. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Chandauli has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 74% and female literacy of 55%. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Khedaru Rai Rajbhar
A person of strong feeling for the country during freedom struggle. He was a staunch reformer and pleaded for the cause of downtrodden. In 1942, He offers Satyagraha from the village, Jamunipur, in the Sakaldiha block. He died in 1968 at BHU.
Kamlapati Tripathi
Born in Chandauli, Mr. Tripathi had significant contribution in the development and growth of Varanasi—from which Chandauli separated. In particular, The new Varanasi Railway station became possible only because of him. Pt. Tripathi was Railway Minister during Indira Gandhi's Prime Ministership.

Chunni Lal Gupta
He was a freedom fighter who was famous person in Chandauli. He was born in Chandauli. In his life, he was sent to jail for 7 years by English government. Angrej had punished him for oppose them.He was best friend of Pt. Kamala Pati Tripathi. He was a real Hero of Chandauli Land who fought with Angrej and oppose their policy.
