Governing body: Private NRHP Reference#: 76001710 Significant dates Added to NRHP: December 8, 1976[1] Designated NHL: December 8, 1976[2] The Chappelle Administration Building, on the campus of Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, was designed by John Anderson Lankford, known as the “dean of black architects.”[3] The building name has been spelled Chapelle Administration Building in HABS and NPS reports.
It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976.[2][4]
According to the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, "The building is topped by a round cupola with clock and chimes. The original cupola was destroyed by lightning in 1974, but has since been restored."[3]
