Niţchidorf (German: Nitzkydorf; Hungarian: Niczkyfalva) is a commune in Timiş County in the Banat region of Romania.

Geography

It is located in the southwest of Romania, at 30 km (19 mi) from Timişoara. Niţchidorf has 1,599 inhabitants (2005), and a total area of 64.13 km² (24.76 sq mi). The commune is composed of three villages: Blajova, Duboz and Niţchidorf.

History

It was first mentioned in 1784. The commune was named after its founder, count Kristóf Niczky. Historically, it was inhabited mostly by German-speaking Banat Swabians. Ioan Maşcovescu of the Social Democratic Party has been mayor since 2004.
