Gătaia is a town in Timiş County, Banat, western Romania. It is located on the Bârzava River at 52 km (32 mi) from Timişoara and 47 km (29 m) from Reşiţa. It administers five villages: Butin, Percosova, Sculia, Şemlacu Mare and Şemlacu Mic. Declared a town in 2004, it also administered four other villages until that time, when they were split off to form Birda Commune.

Transport

Train services to Buzias and Jamu Mare are operated by Regiotrans.

Notable people

It is the birthplace of Adalbert Deşu, a Romanian football striker, who played at the 1930 FIFA World Cup with the Romanian national football team.
