Newbury High School is a public high school in Newbury, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Newbury Local Schools district. Their nickname is the Black Knights. It is the only school district in Geauga County that serves a single township—all others are consolidated.

All grades (K-12) are located at the same site at 14775 Auburn Rd, just north of Kinsman Rd. (State Route 87). Grades 4-6 are located in a building constructed in the early 1970s, with grades 7-12 housed in the original building. Newbury's athletic director is also the dean of students, there is one principal and one secretary for the entire school. There is also only one guidance counselor for grades 7-12, until 2011 the counselor was JoAnn Salon.

The main building houses grades K-3, as well as 7-12. The buildings are in need of renovation; the secondary and elementary building has 3 floors and no air conditioning, and some bricks on the facade of the building need repair. The middle school, which housing 4-6 has air conditioning, but was built in the 1970s and has no real walls, all of the rooms are partitioned. The 4-6 building has a wonderful auditorium that seats approximately 200 guests in burnt orange-colored seats, and features full stage equipment, catwalks, and dressing rooms.

The district has experienced declining enrollment since an all-time high of approximately 120 students in the 1986 graduating class, falling victim to more and more students attending private schools Notre-Dame Cathedral Latin High School, Lake Catholic High School, Hawken High School, Laurel Upper School, and schools in neighboring districts, West Geauga High School, Berkshire High School, and Chardon High School. The school also sees a decline in class sizes with more students enrolling in PSEO (Post Secondary Education Option) at Kent State--Geauga and Lakeland Community College. Over the past 10–15 years graduating classes have ranged from approximately 40-65.

Only about 30 percent of the graduating class attends college, most students join the workforce when they finish high school. The most highly attended colleges are: Kent State, The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, Akron University, Cleveland State University, Ashland University, and Gannon University.

Other notable Universities include: Miami University, Ohio, Otterbein University, University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, University of West Virginia, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Science , University of Michigan, Heidelberg University

Athletics

Nicknamed the Black Knights, Newbury High School offers multiple sports for both boys and girls, including football, wrestling, baseball, cross country and track (boys), cross country and track (girls), volleyball, and basketball.

Through 1989, the Black Knights were part of the East Suburban Conference, and generally they competed well in most sports. However, starting with the 1989-90 academic year, Newbury entered the Chagrin Valley Conference, which includes much larger schools such as Kenston, Chardon and West Geauga.
