Dale Lavelle Carter (born November 28, 1969) is a former American football cornerback who played for the Kansas City Chiefs (1992–1998), Denver Broncos (1999–2000), Minnesota Vikings (2001), New Orleans Saints (2002–2003), and Baltimore Ravens (2003–2005).

Professional career

Carter was drafted as a cornerback by the Chiefs in the 1992 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee.

In 1992 Carter was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

After six seasons in Kansas City in which he shone on the field but was involved with the law several times, Carter signed a four year, $22.8 million dollar contract with the Broncos in 1999 making him the NFL's highest-paid defensive back.^[1] After a poor year, Carter was suspended for the entire 2000 season due to a fourth substance abuse violation before being released during the 2001 season. He would then play for the Vikings, Saints and Ravens before retiring after the 2005 season.

Upon retirement, Carter started a non profit organization to assist young men and women from making the same mistakes that he made. The Dale Carter Foundation is based out of Covington Ga and Dallas/Ft.Worth TX and it's vision is "To empower and enhance the lives of today's youth by giving them a voice of hope". Personal life

Carter is the brother of former NFL Wide Receiver Jake Reed.^[2]
