* Stampede at Satara, Maharashtra: At least 35 people, mostly women and children, were feared killed and over 50 injured in a stampede at a religious fair in Wai in Satara district of western Maharashtra on Tuesday afternoon. The stampede occurred during the annual Mandra Devi Yatra at the Mandra Devi temple, located on a hill in Wai.

* Sania Mirza becomes the first Indian woman to enter the third round of a Grand Slam tennis event and set up a clash with former World No. 1 Serena Williams at the Australian Open in Melbourne on Wednesday.
