The Brown-hooded Gull (Chroicocephalus maculipennis) is a species of gull in the Laridae family. As is the case with many gulls, it has traditionally been placed in the genus Larus.

It is found in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, the Falkland Islands, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are swamps, freshwater lakes, intertidal marshes, and pastureland.

The Black-headed Duck has an 'obligate brood parasite' relationship with the Brown-hooded Gull in which a female will lay an egg in the nest of a Brown-hooded Gull with the intent of having the host gull incubate the egg instead of herself.
