TriNoma, or Triangle North of Manila, is a large shopping mall in Quezon City in the Philippines owned by property development firm Ayala Corporation. Opened in 2007, the mall is located on the side of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, near the North Avenue MRT Station in Quezon City, giving significant market competition to the nearby SM City North EDSA as one of the largest malls in Manila's metropolitan area.cite news| first=Linda| last=Bolida| title=A triangle takes shape| date=November 12, 2006| publisher=Inquirer.net| url=http://services.inquirer.net/express/06/11/12/html_output/xmlhtml/20061112-32015-xml.html| accessdate=2008-01-19]

Location and vicinity

TriNoma is located at the EDSA corner North Avenue in Quezon City. Strategically located in "North Triangle", the mall is bound by three major thoroughfares, namely, North Avenue, EDSA and Mindanao Avenue. Located on a 20 hectare parcel of land, TriNoma has a gross leasable area of 195,000 square meters, which includes the mall's major anchor, The Landmark Supermarket and Department Store.

It is directly connected to the MRT's North Avenue station as the mall itself sits atop the MRT Depot. It will be almost connected to the Yellow Line's proposed North Avenue LRT Station. Future plans include an overpass connecting TriNoma to SM City North EDSA.

For better accessibility, it is best to take the mall's lobby drop off along Mindanao Ave. Landmark for this area is Conti's and UCC. A driveway allows for quick drop off and an elevator conveniently takes you to the mall's other floors. The TriNoma Park at the 3rd and 4th levels may be easily accessed too thru this lobby.

History

The actual site of TriNoma used to be the location of "Divisoria sa EDSA", a flea market built by Mayor Brigido Simon as a livelihood project for the informal settlers of Quezon City. Due to unbalanced competition from SM City North EDSA, it was closed by Mayor Ismael Mathay to give way for the construction of the Metro Rail Transit depot in 1995.

The MRT-3 consortium composed of Fil-Estate Holdings and the Ayala Corporation decided to make the depot underground rather than a regular depot similar to LRT-1 due to its commercial viability as a shopping mall. When the MRT-3 began operations on December 1999, the construction of the mall was not immediately undertaken due to lack of funding. The North Triangle Depot Commercial Corporation was incorporated in 2001 with Fil-Estate spearheading the development and Ayala Land as minority stockholder [ [http://www.pse.com.ph/html/ListedCompanies/pdf/2007/ALI_17A_Apr2007.pdf Microsoft Word - 17-A _FY 2006_ - w. scanned signature sheet.doc ] ] .

From 1999 to 2004, the depot was idle space and SM City North EDSA increased its profit when its mall became a destination on the north terminus of the MRT-3. An agreement was signed on December 2004 where Ayala Land bought 30.89% stake of the Fil-Estate Group in the North Triangle Depot Commercial Corporation for P600.1 million and in exchange of a land in Ayala, Makati and other shares swapped. Ayala Land started constructing the mall on June 2005 under the project name "North Triangle Mall". [http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2006/jan/17/yehey/business/20060117bus8.html] The mall was named "TriNoma" inspired by the redevelopment of industrial district TriBeCa.

TriNoma was officially launched in a private ceremony in April 25, 2007. It was inaugurated by officials of Ayala Land, its developer, and authorities of Quezon City, led by Mayor Feliciano Belmonte. Members of the media were also present.

The soft opening was originally slated for May 3, 2007, but was delayed by structural elements that were yet to be finished. It finally opened to the public on May 16, 2007. The 3.5 billion peso mall was officially launched on October 16, 2007 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Vice President Noli de Castro.

The mall was the first building constructed in the 54.3 hectare Quezon City Triangle Exchange. The Quezon City Central Business District is a 250.6-hectare redevelopment of the North Triangle (North Avenue, Quezon Memorial Circle, EDSA, Quezon Avenue), East Triangle (East Avenue, Quezon Memorial Circle, EDSA, Quezon Avenue) and Veterans Center (North Avenue, Mindanao Avenue) [ [http://www.quezoncity.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=225&Itemid=2 PGMA tasks Mayor SB to Chair QC-CBD Commission - The Official Website of the Quezon City Government ] ] .

Physical details

The mall is composed of four major levels with two minor ones on ground and on grade. TriNoma, just like any Ayala Mall beautifully blends the outdoors with the indoors. The mall is characterized by alfresco areas punctuated with unique water features (instead of a waterfall, the mall showcases a "water-up", a water installation that defies gravity)and lush landscaping. These water installations flow into pools at the TriNoma Park, an oasis that sits atop the mall.

The TriNoma Park is a two-level park spanning a total of one hectare. It is home to an array of restaurants offering varied cuisines. The Park also houses a stage for performances and shows. This stage is surrounded by pools of water, making for an interesting events venue. The TriNoma Park is linked to the mall's 3rd level where the latest in fashion brands are located.

TriNoma has over 550 stores and is home to the flagship stores of both local and international brands. It is quite noticeable that at TriNoma, brands showcase their "statement stores" as well as their new brand concepts. The mall also has fresh concepts that are firsts in the country like the fashion brand Promod, the first ever Fitness First Platinum in the country, American restaurant chain Ruby Tuesday, among others. The mall is anchored by The Landmark Supermarket and Department Store which occupies half of the mall's leasable area. Crossings Department Store is also located at the mall.

The mall has two parking buildings, North Ave Parking Building and Mindanao Parking Building. The North Avenue Parking building is currently undergoing construction for purposes of expansion. Parking is also available in open areas.
