Nescopeck Creek

Nescopeck Creek is a 37.5-mile-long (60.4 km)^[1] tributary of the Susquehanna River in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

The creek rises in the saddle between Mount Yeager and Pine Mountain in Dennison Township, Pennsylvania, flowing into a former swamp dammed to form Olympus Pond. It meets Creasy Creek and then Little Nescopeck Creek a little below the dam. Flowing westward through Nescopeck State Park, it meets Oley Creek as it passes between Mount Yeager to the south and Nescopeck Mountain to the north. Entering a more developed area, it passes through Rumbels and St Johns, and is joined by a second Little Nescopeck Creek just north of Sybertsville. Below the confluence, the creek begins to undulate through an increasingly narrow, rocky gorge, turning alternately north and south. Finally, at the hamlet of Tank, it turns north, is joined by Black Creek, and cuts a gap through Nescopeck Mountain. The gap accommodates a local road and Interstate 80, the latter built on the grade of an abandoned PRR branch (formerly the Nescopec Railroad). The creek continues to meander, turning north and south, although the first loop beyond the gap was relocated upon the construction of I-80. The abandoned rail grade parallels and crosses it several times to end just below the borough of Nescopeck, where the creek meets the Susquehanna River.
