Now That's What I Call Music! 23 or Now 23 was released in 1992. The album is the 23rd edition of the (UK) Now! series. It was released on vinyl, audio cassette & CD formats. The Heaven 17 track 'Temptation', the Simple Minds track 'Alive and Kicking' and Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé's 'Barcelona' were making their second appearances on a NOW! album. First appearing on 1983's Now That's What I Call Music!, 1985's Volume 6 and 1987's Volume 10 respectively, the single Barcelona re-released, a result of being used in the Olympic Games as the unofficial anthem.

Booklet mistakes
- In the liner notes for the collection, it is stated that the Brian May track featured, "Too Much Love Will Kill You", peaked at #4 in the UK Singles Chart; it actually peaked at #5 for two weeks in September 1992.
