"The Sun Rises in the East" is the first album released by hip hop artist Jeru the Damaja.

Album information

The production on the album was handled by legendary hip hop producer DJ Premier. Some consider this album to be Premier's, and Jeru's best work.cite web | last = | first = | url = http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1160467&BAB=M | title = The Sun Rises in the East at CDUniverse.com | format = | work = | publisher = | accessdate = December 20 | accessyear = 2006]

The album also features fellow Gang Starr Foundation member Afu-Ra. Jeru's trademark delivery and vocabulary can be found throughout the project. It is highly significant and is said to have helped revive East Coast hip hop along with other albums such as Wu-Tang Clan's "Enter the Wu-Tang", Nas' "Illmatic" and Black Moon's "Enta Da Stage".

An interesting sidenote, the album cover depicts the World Trade Center on fire only one year after the 1993 bombing of the North Tower.cite web | last = | first = | url = http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1160467&BAB=M | title = The Sun Rises in the East at CDUniverse.com | format = | work = | publisher = | accessdate = December 20 | accessyear = 2006]
