Ampusongan is one of the seven
barangays comprising the municipality of Bakun in the Philippine province ofBenguet .During the Spanish period, Ampusongan was a "rancheria" or a town in the "Commandancia Politico Militar de Tiagan, Distrito de
Benguet ."History
In 1900, when the Americans took control of the
Philippines , thePhilippine Commission enacted Act No. 48, placing Ampusongan under the province ofBenguet and Bakun under the then Province of Amburayan. OnAugust 13 ,1908 , the Americans set upMountain Province as a "special province", organized into several sub-provinces:Apayao ,Kalinga ,Bontoc ,Ifugao ,Benguet ,Lepanto , and Amburayan. The municipal districts ofBakun and Ampusongan became part ofBenguet .In 1917, the Bureau of Non-Christian Tribes recommended that the western border of the
Mountain Province be pushed eastward, such that the entire subprovince of Amburayan and large slices ofLepanto andBenguet would be made part ofIlocos Sur andLa Union .In the early part of 1937, Ampusongan was merged with
Bakun , the latter carrying the name of the townships while the former became abarangay See Also
