On November 12, 1757 during the French and Indian War, German Flatts, in the Province of New York was attacked and destroyed by a combined force of French and Indians.

A force of 300 French regulars and Indians under the command of François-Marie Picoté de Belestre from Quebec went up Block River Valley and crossed into West Canada Valley north of German Flatts. On November 12, 1757 at around 3am they launched an attack on German Flatts from the hills north of the village. The Germans had five blockhouses which they quickly surrendered. Forty were killed, all the buildings were destroyed, and most of the inhabitants were captured and taken back to Canada. Some of the inhabitants fled over the Mohawk to Fort Herkimer for safety.

The inhabitants had been warned of the attack by friendly Oneida Indians, but they ignored the warning and made no preparations. The prisoners were exchanged and returned the next year.
