Mohd Asrarudin Putra Omar (1988) is a Malaysian footballer who is a defender and midfielder for Selangor FA. He also a member of Malaysia national, Malaysia U-23 and former Malaysia U-20 squad.

Career

Asraruddin, a leftback in the Malaysia U-19 for 2007 Champions Youth Cup, is the team’s vice-skipper and took over the captain’s armband from the injured Mohd Bunyamin Umar in the match against PSV. In the absence of Bunyamin for the PSV Eindhoven game, Asraruddin moved into the centreback position and handled himself superbly.

In November 2007, Mohd Asraruddin Putra Omar were given a trials with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven which lasted for a week. PSV Eindhoven were impressed with the duo after watching them in action in the Champions Youth Cup, hosted by Malaysia in August 2007. His superb performance in CYC was admired by PSV academy.[1]

In fact, he is capable of playing in either the leftback or centreback positions. A former student at the Bukit Jalil Sports School, Asraruddin played a crucial role in helping Malaysia qualify for the AFC Under-20 Championship for the first time in over 20 years.

Asraruddin made his under 23 debut against Republic of Ireland on 15 May 2008. He made his international senior debut against India on July 22, 2008 as a substitute. He also represent the Malaysia XI squad against Chelsea F.C. at Shah Alam Stadium on 29 July 2008. The Malaysia XI eventually lost 0-2. However, Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari praise the Malaysia XI for giving a good fight against his team.

In November 2010, Asraruddin was called up to the Malaysia national squad by coach K. Rajagopal for the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup. On the first game at the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup against Indonesia, Asraruddin played badly and cost the game for the Malaysian side as Malaysia embarrassing lost of 5-1 as he makes 3 embarrassing incident. Asraruddin scored an own goal and made the other 2 mistakes by mishandling the ball and that caused the Indonesian side to score easily. Malaysia won the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup title for the first time in their history.

In June 6 2011, he scored 4 goals in the 1st half against Perlis. Selangor won 7 - 1 that evening.
