personal namein Polandand hence often serves as the Polish equivalent of the English " John Doe". Another Polish name thought to be very popular is "Jan Kowalski". Also, in the Czech Republic, a very similar phenomenon is represented by the very similar name Jan Novák (see Jan Novák, composer, there is also Jan Novák, a writer in Chicago).
