Martin Brimmer (June 8, 1793 – April 25, 1847) was an American businessman and politician, who served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives,[7] in the Boston Board of Alderman, and as the mayor of Boston, Massachusetts.

Early life

Brimmer was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts[4] on June 8, 1793[4] to Martin a merchant on Brimmer's T wharf,[7] and Sarah (Watson) Brimmer.[4][7]

Education

Brimmer attended Harvard,[4] graduating in 1814.[4]

Marriage

Brimmer married Harriet E Wadsworth of Geneseo, New York, they had one child Martin Brimmer.[7]

Business career

Brimmer began his business career working with Isaac Winslow on Long Wharf.[7] Later Brimmer ran a counting room on Brimmer's Wharf.[7]

Government service

Brimmer was a Member of the Boston Board of Alderman from January 1, 1838[5] to January 7, 1839.[6] Brimmer serve in the Massachusetts House of Representatives[7] in 1838 and 1839.[7] On December 12, 1842 Brimmer was elected Mayor of Boston for 1843,[3] on December 11, 1843 Brimmer was reelected mayor for the 1844 term.[3][4]

Death

Brimmer died on April 25, 1847.[4]
