Detention is a cartoon that premiered on Kids' WB! on September 10, 1999 and was created by Bob Doucette (who had previously worked as a producer for Histeria!). This is one of the shortest lived programs by Warner Bros. Animation and it followed the exploits of a group of rebellious preteen children from Benedict Arnold Middle School who, try as they may, continually find themselves in detention.

Thirteen episodes of the show were produced for the 1999-2000 television season. In the following year, reruns were aired on Friday afternoons until August 31, 2001. The show has not been seen on television airwaves since then, though on Latin America the show aired on Warner Channel until 2003.

The show has never been released on VHS or DVD to this very day. This is also true for the other Kids WB shows that only lasted one season.

Characters

  • Shareena Wickett (voiced by Tara Strong) - A 12-year-old Goth girl considered to be the leader of the kids who star in the show. Shareena prefers to be a free spirit and finds pleasure in the sublime. Her beliefs are not taken seriously by her parents. Her hobbies include reading horror stories and performing séances. She also has a pet pig.
  • Eugenia P. Kisskillya (voiced by the late Kathleen Freeman) - The Physical Education teacher and detention monitor of Benedict Arnold Middle School, Miss Kisskillya serves as the antagonist to the children. Having been a military sergeant in the Marine Corps., Miss Kisskillya bosses the children around like such and almost always pronounces "detention" as "dee-tennnn-shun!!". Her facial appearance and bossy attitude are very similar to the Queen of Hearts from Disney's version of Alice in Wonderland. The only student she likes is her "pet", Shelley Kelly.
  • Emmitt Roswell (voiced by Billy West) - A conspiracy theorist who believes that intelligent life exists in outer space and is determined to make contact with aliens. He possesses distinct leadership qualities and is sometimes seen as a second-in-command.
  • Jim Kim (voiced by Roger Eschbacher) - A shy kid with a love for comic book superheroes, frequently bringing up DC Comics superheroes in conversation (mostly because DC Comics is owned by Warner Bros., and so is Kids WB). He also even takes on the characters' attributes at inopportune times, such as trying to escape detention disguised as Batman in a promotional spot (only to be caught by the real Batman, prompting him to remark "I like Superman better anyway!"). He is very loyal to Emmitt (despite him often being annoyed by his fanboy nature). It was suspected that he and Emmitt liked each other.
  • Ramone "Gug" Gugleamo (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui) - A short Hispanic kid with a short temper. Constantly left out of competitive sports, Gug constantly picks fights with kids twice his own size and has even wanted to take down Kisskillya. He and Emmitt have their occasional rivalries (although they both agree on their lack of patience with Jim).
  • Duncan Bubble - A quiet boy who is always playing with a yo-yo and never speaks. He instead uses his yo-yo to spell out messages (for example, "Thanx Guys", "Boring", and "Yeah"), accompanied by an electronic voice (done by Bob Doucette) reading said message.
  • Lemonjella and Orangejella LaBelle (voiced by Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry) - A pair of black identical twins. The geniuses of the group, they've been known to get themselves in trouble by hacking into the school computers and deleting library fines. Their scientific descriptions also sometimes confuse Miss Kisskillya. They also sometimes have a bit of competitive edge between each other. The idea of genius twin sisters would later be used in the later Kids' WB series Johnny Test.
  • Shelley Kelly (voiced by Pamelyn Ferdin) - An always-happy tomboy who wears a Ladybug Scout uniform every day. She constantly kisses up to Miss Kisskillya and has a crush on Emmitt. As a result, she is greatly detested by the other kids, whom she wishes to be friends with.
