University Hospitals of Cleveland

University Hospitals is a major not-for-profit medical center in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. With 150 locations throughout northeast Ohio, it encompasses a network of hospitals, outpatient centers and primary care physicians. At the core of the system is University Hospitals' Case Medical Center (CMC). Its main campus includes the internationally celebrated Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, ranked best in the Midwest and first in the nation for the care of critically ill newborns; MacDonald Women's Hospital, Ohio's only hospital for women; and Ireland Cancer Center, which holds the nation's highest designation by the National Cancer Institute of Comprehensive Cancer Center.

University Hospitals is also a major center for biomedical research, ranking among the top 15 centers in the United States with approximately $75 million in annual extramural research funding and a further $10 million in various clinical trials, and is the primary affiliate among several teaching hospitals associated with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Vision 2010

Vision 2010 is the largest construction and upgrade project in the history of University Hospitals. New construction will include a new 200-bed cancer hospital, upgraded emergency room facilities at CMC, a new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, and new construction at other hospital sites. The capital expenditure for this project, according to hospital press releases, is slated to be approximately USD $1 billion. Construction is due to be completed by the year 2010.
