Jane LRT (TTC)

Jane LRT (TTC)

The Jane LRT is a proposed light rail line in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as part of the Transit City proposal announced March 16, 2007, to be operated by the Toronto Transit Commission. It is expected to cost approximately $630 million. With construction to begin in 2013, the line is expected to open in 2017, the sixth of the seven Transit City lines to be complete after the Sheppard East, Etobicoke-Finch West, Waterfront West, Eglinton Crosstown, and Don Mills LRT lines.

Route layout

The Jane LRT line would run for 16.5 km, estimated to account for 24 million trips in 2021.

teeles West Station to Jane Street

The northern terminus of the line would be built at the proposed Steeles West Station on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway in North York. The alignment from Steeles West Station to Jane Street will be determined from three possible options: From Steeles West Station, meeting Jane Street via Steeles Avenue, via Shoreham Drive through Murray Ross Parkway, or through Northwest Gate.

Jane Street

The line would proceed south to Jane Station on the Bloor Danforth subway in Old Toronto. The segment of the line from up to north of Wilson Avenue to Jane Station may be tunneled because many parts of the street in this segment are too narrow for surface LRT to be implemented without severely impacting traffic flow. However, this will also mean fewer stops on this section of the line, as maintenance costs would skyrocket should frequent stops be implemented underground.
