Research

Roth wrote hurricane histories for the states of Louisiana and Texas while working at the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles, Louisiana during the mid to late 1990s.[2][3] A Virginia hurricane history was cowritten by David during 1999 while at HPC.[4] Work on these histories was used during the Atlantic hurricane reanalysis.[5] Roth also wrote the Unified Surface Analysis Manual used by the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center, Tropical Prediction Center (National Hurricane Center), Ocean Prediction Center, and Honolulu National Weather Service Forecast Office in 2004.[6] He is currently working on tropical cyclone rainfall storm total graphics for all known tropical cyclones and their remnants affecting the United States and Mexico, currently complete back to 1959 for the United States and for the 1995-2003 period for Mexico.[7]

Recognition

The HPC tropical cyclone rainfall climatology was listed as one of best practices within the National Weather Service during the Hurricane Katrina service assessment in 2005.[8]
