Richard Garrard was the seventh Suffragan Bishop of Penrith in the modern era [ Crockfords On line- accessed Monday 11th August 2008, 17:07] . He was born on 24 May 1937 and educated at Northampton Grammar School and King's College London [Who’s Who 2008 (London, A & C Black, 2008 ISBN 9780713672576] .Ordained in 1962 he began his career with a Curacy in Woolwich [ Crockford’s (Ibid)] and was then successively a Chaplain at "Keswick Hall College of Education", Principal of the Church ArmyTraining centre, Canon Chancellor at Southwark Cathedral [ The Times, Saturday, Dec 21, 1985; pg. 10; Issue 62327; col A "Services tomorrow Southwark Cathedral Preacher Canon Richard Garrard"] ,Educational Advisor to the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich and finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) Archdeacon of Sudbury. A renowned author [His works include “Lent with St Mark”, 1992; “A Time to Pray”, 1993; and “Love on the Cross”, 1995 British Library catalogue accessed Monday 11th August, 2008 17:30] , in retirement he continues to minister as an Assistant Bishop within the Diocese of Norwich. s-start
