This is a list of nominated candidates for the New Democratic Party in the 40th Canadian federal election, which resulted in a Conservative minority government.[1]

Educated at the CEGEP du Vieux-Montréal, he is an electronic technician who has specialized in telecommunications with Hydro-Québec. He also began working as a Public Service Alliance of Canada, Section 957 delegate in a Montreal region employee assistance program in 2000.[8] Senécal has been a New Democratic Party candidate in two federal elections. He was also vice-president of the Action démocratique du Québec campaign in Mirabel in the 2003 Quebec provincial election, supporting the candidacy of Hubert Meilleur.[9]

Notes: Christelle Bogosta was born in 1973 in Montreal. She has a diploma in applied ecology from Vanier College, a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and immunology, and an advanced graduate diploma in community health from the University of Montreal. Formerly an organic farmer, she is a public health administrator focused on treatment and harm reduction for substance abuse.[11] She decided to run in the 2008 election out of concern that the Conservative government of Stephen Harper was averse to funding community treatment programs. Bogosta also called for a train link from Montreal to Sherbrooke during the campaign.[12] She defeated Simon Gnocchini Messier to win the New Democratic Party nomination.[13] On election day, she finished fourth against Bloc Québécois incumbent Christian Ouellet. She later ran for a seat on the Bedford town council in 2009.

Notes: Simon Gnocchini Messier (formerly known as Simon Gnocchini) has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Laval University. He has worked as a high school teacher and a textbook salesman. He was a councillor in Stanbridge Station from 2001 to 2003, and in 2007 he was elected as a school trustee for the Commission scolaire du Val-des-Cerfs.[16] He ran for the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2003 provincial election as a Union des forces progressistes candidate in Brome—Missisquoi.[17] He also ran for mayor of Bedford in the 2003 municipal elections, without success.[18] Gnocchini Messier originally sought the New Democratic Party nomination for the federal Brome—Missisquoi division in 2008, but he lost to Christelle Bogosta. After discussions with the party, he decided to run in Shefford.[13] He finished fourth against Bloc Québécois incumbent Robert Vincent. He later sought election to the Bromont town council in 2009.[19] He is presumably related to Luc Gnocchini, a town councillor in Bedford.

Notes: Singh was born in Guyana, and moved to Canada with his family in his late teens. He studied Industrial/Labour Relations at Humber College and Political Science at York University, and has been a realtor since 1989. He was 48 years old at the time of the 2008 election. Singh has served two terms as president of the Association of Concerned Guyanese in Canada. In 2006, he called for the Canadian government to put more pressure on Guyanese police to solve the murder of Guyanese Agriculture Minister Satyadeo Sawh, a Canadian citizen.[21]

Singh joined the New Democratic Party in 1995, and ran for its provincial wing in the 2007 Ontario general election. In this campaign, he pledged to champion affirmative action programs that would give racial minorities better representation in the public services.[22] He also expressed concern that the Brampton Civic Hospital was privately financed, and argued that it will ultimately cost more than a fully public hospital.[23] During the 2008 election, he said that poverty and homelessness were key issues for the riding, and called for the re-opening of the Peel General Hospital.[24] He listed Cheddi Jagan, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela as his political heroes in 2007; the following year, he added Tommy Douglas, Martin Luther King, Fidel Castro.[25]

Ali Naqvi is a Canadian social democratic politician, and lawyer. He has run for political office at both the federal and provincial levels of government for the New Democratic Party (NDP).

Naqvi was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on November 16, 1964. He attended the University of Karachi where he received the following degrees: a Bachelor of Commerce; Masters of International Relations; and Law. He then received a Law degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

He now practices immigration law at Naqvi and Associates LL.Ms. He lives in the Toronto, Ontario suburb of Etobicoke, with his wife Raisa Sharipova and their two children Zain and Ameer. He is the brother of Ontario Liberal MPP Yasir Naqvi.

He has run for the New Democratic Party in four elections and was defeated four times. His first run for elected office was in the electoral district of Don Valley West in the 2000 federal election. His second election was during the 2003 Ontario provincial election, also in Don Valley West. In the 2006 federal election he ran for the NDP in Etobicoke North.
