Tortex has been influential in replacing tortoiseshell since an international ban was placed on tortoiseshells in 1973. Picks come in a variety of colors based on thickness, from 0.50 mm to 2.00 mm. Many famous guitarist use Dunlop picks, including Alex Turner, the lead singer and guitarist of the Arctic Monkeys, who uses a 0.5mm Dunlop pick.
