Hawthorne is a rail station on New Jersey Transit's Main Line. It is located in Hawthorne, New Jersey and is one of five stations that serve Passaic County.

The station is situated on a plot of land that is not connected to any main road in Hawthorne. The station's parking lot, ticket machines, and southbound platform are located off of Washington Avenue, while the northbound platform is located off of Schoon Avenue. To get from one side of the tracks to the other a rider can walk across the track crossing area.

The train station has a small parking lot, but it fills up very quickly on weekdays. There has been talk of converting some nearby land into additional parking. There are many abandoned toxic waste sites in this area that would be feasible, if permission was granted. The former Pan Chemical is adjacent to the train station and could be used for this purpose, if it was cleaned up. There is also a huge land area pretty close, on Wagaraw Road, which was a Superfund Site (Merck/Calgon Corporation). This train station is surrounded by fascinating environmental polluters from Hawthorne's haunting chemical past. North of the station is the infamous Pyrolac, an environmental catastrophe for this little town. But it's a nice quiet train station and worth the ride to Secaucus, where you can catch another train to NYC. And it's a fun train ride with interesting views while passing through Paterson!
