Amounderness ("Andernes" in ancient times) is an area of northwest
England. In its most recent incarnation it was a hundred of Lancashire. Previously the name had been used for territories now in Lancashire and north of the River Ribblethat had been included in the Domesday Book's Yorkshiresection.
Amounderness (first seen written in 661) comes from the Norse for “a ness or promontory sheltered by oaks”.fact|date=August 2008 Some historians wrongly think that it took its name from Agmundr, a Norse warlord who died in battle in the Ribble valley in AD911,cite web
