Bishopof Guildfordis the Ordinaryof the Church of England Diocese of Guildfordin the Province of Canterbury.
The diocese covers the west of the County of
Surreyand was created in 1927 under King George V when the Diocese of Winchesterwas divided. The see is in the town of Guildfordwhere the seat is located at the Cathedral Church of the Holy Spirit which was built as a cathedral 1936 to 1965. The bishop's residence is Willow Grange, Guildford.
Prior to the creation of the Diocese, there was a
suffragan bishopof Guildford in the diocese of Winchester.
The current bishop is the Right Reverend Christopher John Hill, the 9th Bishop of Guildford, who signs "+ Christopher Guildford". He is not yet one of the 21 senior bishops (by length of tenure), and so is not entitled to sit in the
House of Lords.
