Wauconda High School, officially Wauconda Community High School, and most commonly WHS, is a public four-year high school located in Wauconda, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Wauconda Community Unit School District 118.

History

Wauconda first opened its doors in September, 1958.

Academics

In 2007, Wauconda had an average composite ACT score of 19.9, and graduated 97.6% of its senior class, which is well above the state average of 85.9%. The average class size is 20.4. Wauconda has made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievements Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act. Athletics

Wauconda competes in the North Suburban Conference/Prairie Division and Illinois High School Association. Its mascot is the Bulldog. In the past few years, Wauconda's athetic programs have been on the rise. The 2007-2008 Varsity Football team qualified for the State finals, which is phenomenal considering tough seasons the football team faced in previous years. Wauconda also has a basketball program which is supported by Purple Crush, a fan group imitating the University of Illinois' Orange Krush. The Pom/Dance team and Cheerleading squad have each qualified for Sectionals and State in the past four years. The cheerleading team has placed in the top 8 each year that they have qualified. The Girls Volleyball team became Co-Division Champions in 2005.
