Abuna Yosef is the 16th tallest mountain in Ethiopia; it reaches an elevation of 4260 meters.[1] Located in the Semien Wollo Zone of the Amhara Region, near the eastern escarpment of the Ethiopian highlands, this mountain has a latitude and longitude of 12°8′N 39°11′E / 12.133°N 39.183°E / 12.133; 39.183.

A notable landmark on this mountain is the Church of Gennete Maryam, a monolithic church which tradition reports was excavated during the reign of Yekuno Amlak.[2]
