The Spinanes was an indie band from Olympia, Portland and Chicago, in the 1990s. The founding members were Rebecca Gates (guitar, vocals) and Scott Plouf (drums).

Rebecca Gates also sang back up vocals on the Elliott Smith song "St. Ides Heaven", and on the Ben Lee song "Grampaw Would". Also, she contributed a song to the "Free to Fight" project.

Scott Plouf played drums on the Beck album "One Foot on the Grave", the first Team Dresch 7", the Thrones 7", and the Jason O.D. Traeger song "The Wedding Album". Scott joined Built to Spill in 1996 and has played on all of their Warner Bros. releases.
