"The Songstress" was Anita Baker's solo debut album, released in 1983 by Beverly Glen Music. This album was a moderate success, which paved the way for a host of bigger things to come. Two of the album's singles: "Angel" and "No More Tears" became smash hits on the R&B chartsFact|date=May 2008. "The Songstress" sold close to 500,000 copiesFact|date=May 2008.

Elektra Records, a division of Warner Music Group, reissued the album in 1991 with a different cover.
