Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport (Swedish: Göteborg-Landvetter flygplats, Airport codes|GOT|ESGG) is an international airport serving the Gothenburg region in Sweden. With 4.3 million passengers in 2006 [ [http://www.lfv.se/templates/LFV_ListArticle____45955.aspx Solid start to 2007 - LFV ] ] it is Sweden's second-largest airport (after Stockholm-Arlanda). It is operated by the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration (Luftfartsverket).

The airport is named after the small town of Landvetter, which is located in the municipality of Härryda. It is 20 km east of Gothenburg and 40 km west of Borås. Gothenburg's second international airport is Gothenburg City Airport. It has two terminals, domestic and international, even though all check-in is made in the international terminal now, since all luggage has to be screened. The transfer area has several shops, cafes, and a restaurant. There is a hotel 500 metres from the terminal. The passenger departure and arrival functions are on one level. The domestic terminal area is on one side of the series of structure adjacent to the international departure area, which is adjacent to the international arrival area.

The airport was opened in 1977. [ [http://www.lfv.se/templates/LFV_InfoSida_Bred____2637.aspx Did you know that... - LFV ] ] Passenger services, previously at Torslanda Airport [ [http://www.lfv.se/templates/LFV_InfoSida_Bred____2634.aspx History - LFV ] ] , north of Gothenburg, were moved to Landvetter in 1977. Later, some budget airlines began serving the former military base in Säve, which was renamed from Säve Flygplats to Gothenburg City Airport.

Ground transportation

Bus: "Flygbussarna" takes passengers to the city of Gothenburg in 20 minutes, and in 30 minutes to Gothenburg Central station. It costs 80 SEK. Another bus takes you to the town of Borås in 35 min, also for 80 SEK.

The road distance to Gothenburg is 25 km and to Borås 45 km, both with motorway. To go northeast to Alingsås and beyond, the official route is via Partille. Most locals use a 15 km shorter shortcut between Härryda and Lerum signposted "Härskogen". It is very poorly signposted since the road authority wants to avoid too much traffic on this very narrow and curvy road.

There are 7,300 parking spaces at the airport.

Cargo

Landvetter is an important freight airport. There were 60,100 tonnes of air cargo passing Landvetter during 2007 [http://www.lfv.se/templates/LFV_InfoSida_70_30____36426.aspx Trafikstatistik från svenska flygplatser(swedish)] , about 60 % of Arlanda. In contrast to Arlanda and other big airports there are no lack of landing slots. A problem involved with cargo transportation through the airport is the lack of a sufficient road connection to the northeast.
