Bydales School's Marlborough Avenue entrance (now demolished)

Bydales School is a secondary school in Marske-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England; and it is in the Redcar and Cleveland Local Education Authority. The school's current headteacher is Tony Hobbs. In 2008, the school had an enrollment of 734 pupils, and also was awarded Technology College status. The school was rebuilt from older buildings, and a new PFI school was opened to pupils on 2 November 2006.[2] This school received some criticism over its aesthetics and has been described as 'A terrible mess' and has been said to have 'Huge liquorice allsorts' on the roof.[3][4]

The school was accepted, along with 114 other schools, onto the trust school programme in April 2008.[5]

In 2008, 61% of pupils achieved 5A*-C GCSEs, including English and Maths.[6]

Bydales was preceded by Marske County Modern School,[7][8] which was built in 1965.[9]

The new privately-funded buildings of the school were officially opened by Vera Baird, local MP on 7 November 2007. On the same day the school's fair trade shop also started trading.[13][14]
