Nick Lawrence

Nick Lawrence (born February 1966) is a radio and TV presenter. From summer 2004 - October 2006, he used to be a radio presenter for the BBC's regional programme for the east of England between 7pm and 10pm every weekday. He now appears on Watchdog (BBC1) and on Radio 4.

Early life

Lawrence was born and brought up in Halifax, West Yorkshire. He went to the Crossley Heath School. At university he studied a Drama and Theatre Studies course. He was an English teacher in an upper school for four years in Northamptonshire.

Broadcasting career

The regional show, now presented by Sue Marchant, came from the studios of BBC Radio Norfolk in The Forum, Norwich. It was broadcast across BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Northampton, Suffolk, as well as BBC Essex and BBC Three Counties Radio (for Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire).

Lawrence started out at Northants 96 on the breakfast show in the early 90s, before moving onto presenting the breakfast show at Chiltern FM in Dunstable with Andy Gelder and Sarah Isherwood in 1996, he then hosted BBC Three Counties' breakfast show, from October 2001. It won a Sony Award Silver in 2003 for a feature on homeless people. He now produces TV reports for Watchdog on BBC1, and for Inside Out on a Monday evening; he has also been heard reporting on You and Yours for Radio 4. He was made television journalist of the year in 2007. He also appears in the 2003 Guinness Book of Records for presenting the longest ever talk show.

He used to write for a few regional papers and the Observer.
