"Stolen" is a stealth-based game where the player assumes the role of Anya Romanov, an acrobatic thief. Her mission is to infiltrate a number of locations and steal items therein without being caught by guards. She is assisted by Louie, who communicates with her through an earpiece.

Anya has several hi-tech gadgets to assist her, including night vision goggles, lockpicks, and a dart gun. Notably, Anya has no lethal arms; she cannot kill any of the guards she encounters, only knock them unconscious for a brief time.

Comparison with other games

IGN said in their review "it's clear that the developers have played Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid games, but they haven't learned how to make it all that interesting."cite web |url=http://uk.xbox.ign.com/articles/606/606095p2.html |title=IGN review of "Stolen" on the Xbox] . GameSpot said "there are some platforming challenges where you'll have to jump over dead bodies of fallen enemy, swing from poles, run up a cracked wall, and perform various other stunts Prince of Persia-inspired feats."cite web |url=http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/adventure/stolen/review.html |title=GameSpot review of "Stolen"]

Criticism

"Stolen" received little press coverage, that which it did receive was mostly negative. IGN called the game's action "incredibly uninspired" and said the PlayStation 2 version had "low framerates and lots of aliasing all over the place", concluding that "It's a game like this that truly makes one appreciate all the other stealth games on the market." GameSpot said "The only difficult part about Stolen is finding the patience to actually remain hidden when it's easier to just charge through the levels. The only penalty for doing so is that the guards will immediately start shooting at you once you're spotted, but you can easily lose them by running through the nearest door."
