The blurred smooth lantern shark, "Etmopterus bigelowi", is a shark of the family Dalatiidae.

Description

The blurred smooth lantern shark is a widespread, relatively small (about 67 cm in length, the full size is unknown). The shark is fairly slender and blackish. It has small spines on the the dorsal and tail fins. Its lifespan is unknown. Reproduction of the blurred smooth lantern shark is ovoviviparous.

Habitat and ecology

The blurred smooth lantern shark is spread throughout the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. It is found at depths of between 675 and 1,000 m. It is also found near the surface in open water.

Threats and conservation

The only threat to the shark that is known is from human activity, as discarded bycatch of commercial fisheries.
