Cause & Effect is an American electronica/synthpop band. Since the release of their album "Another Minute" in 1990, Cause & Effect have become a venerable presence and significant influence in their music genre.

Early years

Cause & Effect were formed in Sacramento, California consisting of founding members vocalist/guitarist Rob Rowe and keyboardist Sean Rowley. They originally released their debut in 1990 as a self-titled album on minor label Exile Records. C&E was subsequently picked up by BMG Music subsidiary Zoo Entertainment and a reworked version of their album was released in 1991 as "Another Minute".

The re-released album spawned two top-ten dance singles, "What Do You See?" (#8, Billboard Hot Dance Club Play) and "You Think You Know Her" (#9, Billboard Hot Dance Club Play). The latter also peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, becoming C&E's most well-known song. The album itself peaked at #75 on the Hot 100 and at #31 on the Hot Dance Club Play charts. The title track was also released as a third single and included remixes by a then-unknown DJ named Danny Tenaglia.

Death of Rowley

Just as the fortunes of the band looked promising, co-founding member Sean Rowley died in November 1992, while on tour as the opening act for Information Society. Rowley died immediately before the tour's seventh show in Minneapolis, Minnesota of heart failure brought on by a severe asthma attack.

The re-imagined band

A period of contemplation and an invitation to the sold-out KROQ Acoustic Christmas Show followed, with the inclusion of the Rowe-penned acoustic song "Hollow" on a compilation by their record company, Zoo. The song was dedicated to Rowley.

Afterwards, Rowe decided to continue the band's efforts with keyboardist Keith Milo and drummer Richard Shepherd. In 1994 the re-imagined band released their second album "Trip" which was received with critical acclaim. The album spawned the single "It’s Over Now (It's Alright)" which reached the #7 spot on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and became C&E's fourth single to chart in the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Singles were also released for the songs "Alone" and "Inside Out," but both releases failed to make a dent in the charts.

Liquifaction and after

Following the closure of the band's indie label Zoo Entertainment, C&E decided to utilize alternative methods of distribution and simultaneously established their official online website and label Liquifaction in 1996. The band released their third album effort "Innermost Station" in 1997 (re-released in 1999). A digital single of "World Is Ours" containing 2 remixes was released via their website around this time.

The band released the "The Sunrise EP" in 2003, with internet-only remixes of the song "Into The Light" (most notably by Dave Audé) being released. A new album was expected to be released in early 2007, but no reason has been given for the delay.
