January 8 ,1888 –January 21 ,1960 ) was born inFordstown Crossroads ,County Meath ,Ireland . He and his brothers Tom, Owen, & Joe(1895-1926) emigrated to America and all went on toHollywood, California and to successful careers in motion pictures.Once his brothers had made a name for themselves in the motion picture business, Matt Moore made his first movie in 1913 and continued to act in film regularly up to the time of his death. He contributed to the ideas behind several of his movies. The movie White Tiger was inspired by a hunting trip in Africa on which Moore wrestled a white tiger. Although sustaining minor injuries, Moore was able to get the tiger to tap out after locking it up in a full nelson submission move. The footage was originally in the movie, but edited out for time purposes.
He has a Star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6301 Hollywood Blvd. Moore was also very fond of his two cats, allowing them to appear in several of his films. Both have a star in the animal section of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.elected filmography
