Minty (My Little Pony)

Minty (My Little Pony)

Minty is a Pony in Hasbro's line of My Little Pony toys. She has had many variations through the years, and has been in two of the three Pony lines (referred to as "Generations" by collectors.)

G1 releases

The original Minty was released in 1982 in the first generation of ponies. Minty was in the Collector's Pose. She came in two variations, one with flat bottomed hooves, the other with concave bottomed hooves. Her body was a very light green and her hair was white. Her symbols were dark green shamrocks.

G3 release

First release

G3 Minty was first released in 2003. She was a Glitter Pony and one of the original Ponies on the re-launch of the My Little Pony toy line. She was light green again, but much darker than the previously released Minty. Her symbol was three swirled mint candies and her mane and tail were pink. Minty's backcard listed her favorite activities as collecting socks, standing on her head and playing checkers with Rainbow Dash.

She was first released as part of a promotional 2-pack with either Butterscotch, Star Swirl or Autumn Skye. She was released again with the VHS of the animated feature "A Charming Birthday" and a charm bracelet. Her third release saw in the Salon value pack. She was also released as a limited edition from Disney wearing an Ariel costume.

This Minty was initially released with the heart symbol on the wrong foot. The heart marking indicates which foot a Pony's magnet is in, and Minty's heart was placed on the opposite front foot. This mistake was corrected in subsequent releases.

Second release

Minty's second release in 2004 was exactly the same in colouration, but featured in a different pose. She was released in a bonus set with either an ice-skating Pony or a ballet-dancing Pony.

Third release

Minty was released again in 2005 as a Wing Wishes Pony. She came with a green brush, a pink headband with antennae, a pink wand and green and pink wings on a band that went around her waist.

Fourth release

Minty appeared as one of the Winter Series III Ponies in 2005. She came with a pink, blue, yellow and white striped scarf, hat and boots (which were actually socks from her collection). She was a Target exclusive in the United States.

Fifth release

Minty was released in 2007 as part of the Favorite Friends assortment. She came with a purple ribbon and her symbol was 3D.

Animated features

Minty, having been released at the start of the G3 line, has featured in every G3 My Little Pony animated feature to date. She had her own feature film, "", which was released in on October 25th, 2005 in the United States.

"A Charming Birthday"

Minty is the first Pony introduced by the feature's narrator Razzaroo and is described "seeing the world through green-coloured glasses" owing to Minty's love of the colour green. Minty is forcibly volunteered to tell Kimono about the charm bracelet idea the Ponies have come up with for Kimono's birthday, but in a way that does not reveal the surprise.

Minty originally makes a green and white swirled mint candy charm for Kimono's charm bracelet, but the final design is identical to Minty's cutie mark with three candies.

"Dancing in the Clouds"

Minty is briefly in the audience at the Friendship Ball.

"A Very Minty Christmas"

Minty accidentally breaks the Here Comes Christmas Candy Cane. The candy cane's glow guides Santa Claus to Ponyville every Christmas and without it he won't know where to go. Minty, horrified that she might have ruined Christmas, decides take on the role of Santa and give presents (mostly socks) to all of her friends. This plan backfires and Minty admits her guilt to Pinkie Pie, who comes up with the plan for Minty to go to the North Pole and talk to Santa. Minty goes off on her own, which Pinkie Pie did not intend. Thistle Whistle flies off after Minty.

Minty cannot steer her hot air balloon and ends up knocking over the Ponyville Christmas tree before drifting off to the North Pole, bypassing it entirely as she cannot steer. Thistle Whistle saves Minty and guides them both, but they crash into a sharp branch which tears the balloon. A group of hot air balloons guided by the other Ponies go out to find Minty and rescue her. They do so and go to shelter at the North Pole to avoid the bad weather and talk to Santa, but Santa has already left. The Ponies don't mind as Minty and Thistle Whistle are safe. The Ponies all hug and a pink glow surrounds them, the socks Minty hung up on their mantelpieces and all of Ponyville.

The Ponies journey home to find their Christmas tree and Here Comes Christmas Candy Cane restored, with the socks Minty had given as gifts decorating the tree. The socks now contain small gifts. The Ponies are baffled until they realize that the magical glow of their friendship had guided Santa to Ponyville. Santa left a note for Minty on the tree asking if he could use the idea of socks containing small gifts every year.

"The Princess Promenade"

Minty tries to create a green float for the spring promenade, but ends up making half of Pinkie Pie's pink float green by accident. The two argue over the colour of the float until Wysteria arrives and pacifies them.
