Marty Jackley

Marty Jackley (1970-) is the Attorney General for South Dakota. He was appointed Attorney General on September 4, 2009, after the prior Attorney General Larry Long was named a circuit court judge.

Jackley graduated with Honors from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1992, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He earned a law degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1995. From 1995 to 1997, Marty served as a law clerk for the US Federal District Court - District of South Dakota in Rapid City, South Dakota. In 2006, he was appointed the United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota.

As South Dakota Attorney General, Jackley filed a friend of the court brief siding with Arizona in the federal government's lawsuit over that state's immigration law.[1] He won election in November 2010 against Democrat Ron Volesky.[2]
