Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority operates mass transit service in the Des Moines, Iowa area. Bus service is provided to the cities of Altoona, Ankeny, Des Moines, Clive, Pleasant Hill, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights in Polk and Warren counties, Iowa, USA.[1] Until October 2006, it was called the Des Moines Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Future Expansion

As of 2008, a light rail system has been proposed. Future expansion projects include light rail, bus rapid transit and possibly commuter rail service.[2] Six corridors are being studied as of 2010.

  • Fourteenth Street Corridor = 11.5 miles
  • Indianola Road Corridor = 15.2 miles
  • Norfolk Southern Railroad Corridor = 6.9 miles
  • Second Avenue Corridor = 10.7 miles
  • Union Pacific Railroad Corridor = 10.7 miles
  • University Avenue Corridor = 12.9 miles
