The Sudan Football Association (S.F.A.) (Arabic: الإتحاد السوداني لكرة القدم) is the governing body of football in Sudan. It was established in 1936 and affiliated with FIFA in 1948. Along with the national associations of Egypt, Ethiopia and South Africa, the Sudan Football Association was one of the founding members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 1957.

The Sudan Premier League was established in 1993, after the separate state leagues were combined to form one national league.

The Khartoum state league is considered to be the first football league in the whole of AfricaFact|date=January 2008 as it started in the late 1920s. Football was introduced by the Turkish and Egyptian invaders of Sudan, and they formed 14 football clubs in the heart of the capital city, although it is thought by many that the British were the first to introduce the game in Sudan in 1949. In 1956 the Association was able to form the first fully professional league in Khartoum state and in other states in the North. The club formed in the South by the British army called "Youth of Juba" wasn't allowed to compete. But then in the early 1990s when the nationwide league was formed this team played a full season with other Sudanese teams as Juba F.C.

In 1961 the Shield match between the cup holders and the league champions was introduced for the first time. However at that time it was played between the champions of each state in order to determine the champions of Sudan.
