"Skate 2" is a skateboarding video game currently in development by EA Black Box as a sequel to the 2007 game, "Skate". It will be distributed by Electronic Arts.

New features

"Skate 2" is expected to follow the same gameplay style as the first "Skate" game whereby the player controls their skateboarder's tricks by "flicking" the analog sticks on the controller in different ways. The player will also have the ability to step off the skateboard and walk about the city. The player can push and pull certain objects in the environment in order to create their own skateboarding obstacles. Other notable new features include the ability to play as a female skater, double the number of tricks from the first game, improved graphics, improved framerate (60fps), increased ability to customise the characters skateboard and appearance. Skate 2 will feature a new online mode called "Goofy vs. Regular". Gamers will lead a team of goofy foot or regular foot pros as they pit the best skateboarders against each other in the ultimate team competition. With the addition of on foot gameplay comes the ability to walk out of a bail, jump on and off your board while running, and throw your board.

New San Vanelona

"Skate 2" takes place five years after the original skate, during which a devastating earthquake and other disasters have hit the fictional city of San Vanelona. During that time your skater has been in prison (the details of which are still unknown) and is now seeking to rebuild his reputation among his skeptical peers. The Mongo Co. security deals harshly with skateboarders invading their area, and the presence of security guards will have a larger impact on the player. As the story implies, the city has been completely revamped and new spots and locations are everywhere. Developers have mentioned in interviews that the suburbs from skate have been removed and replaced with "The Projects", high rise residential living on platforms offering huge gaps and jumps. Also introduced is San Van Mountain, the more downhill oriented landscape, moving the hills from downtown to create a more compelling city atmosphere. According to an article by Eduardo Vasconcellos of GameSpy, the storyline of Skate 2 will focus primarily around making money and using it to "stick it to the man" in addition to building skate parks for fellow skaters to enjoy; much like the life of Rob Dyrdek. By doing so, players will need to complete challenges to earn the required cash to succeed in the story mode. Development

In February 2008 EA games president Frank Gibeau spoke in a presentation for industry analysts stating that the original game posted bigger numbers on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 than rival Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. Because of these surprising numbers the company had decided to begin work on a sequel. There is a pre-order option available on the skate. website however an official release date has yet to be named.

EA Black Box, the developers of the game, have noted that areas of New San Vanelona are directly inspired by three major skateboarding cities; Barcelona, Spain, San Francisco, California and Vancouver, British Columbia, the city where their offices are located.
