Worcester (North) Parkway is a prospective new parkway railway station in Fernhill Heath, Worcester, United Kingdom. [ [http://www.networkwestmidlands.co.uk/train/Rail%20Development%20Strategy.pdf West Midlands Rail vision: Rail Development Strategy] ] It has yet to be passed and is still in planning stages (after many years).

It would be located on both the Birmingham to Worcester via Kidderminster Line and the Birmingham to Worcester via Bromsgrove Line

It would be likely for Worcester Shrub Hill to close, to justify the passenger numbers. [ http://archive.thisisworcestershire.co.uk/2005/8/12/370646.html The Worcester News ]

It would give the north of Worcester local commuter trains easing congestion on the A38. The close proximity to the M5 would draw in longer distance passengers. [ [http://www.networkwestmidlands.co.uk/train/Rail%20Development%20Strategy.pdf NWM Plans] ]

It would provide Park and Ride facilities, with a large car park. [ [http://www.networkwestmidlands.co.uk/train/Rail%20Development%20Strategy.pdf NWM Plans] ]

It would have 2 platforms on the existing double tracked line.

History

There was a station called Fernhill Heath not far from the site of the proposed station. However, it was axed in the 1960s.

A new station was first suggested in the 1970s (at Norton), but it was rejected due to cost. Although Worcestershire County Council supports the reopening of a station as part of the Second Worcestershire Local Transport Plan (LTP2), Worcestershire County Council's key rail priority is Worcestershire Parkway (Norton), so it not expected that a station will be reinstated at Fernhill Heath over the next decade.
