Canada Flight Supplement [CFS]

Fort Providence (Slavey language: Zhahti Koe "mission house") is a hamlet in the Dehcho Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Located west of Great Slave Lake, it has all-weather road connections by way of the Yellowknife Highway (Great Slave Highway) branch off the Mackenzie Highway, and plans are currently progressing to build a bridge near Fort Providence over the Mackenzie, to replace the ice bridge and ferry, enabling year-round crossing of the river. Fort Providence is well known for hosting the annual Mackenzie Daze celebrations in August each year.

The recorded population was 727 in the 2006 Census, the majority of which are Dene.

The Dene of the community are represented by the Deh Gah Gotie Dene Council [ [http://www.dehchofirstnations.com/members/fort_providence.htm Deh Gah Gotie Dene Council] ] and the Métis by Fort Providence Métis Local 57. This photo shows the bridge construction underway August 15, 2008. The temporary "bridge" is being used to build 5 supports for the new bridge on the south side of the river. Only one of the five is visible in the photo.
