List of minor characters in the StarCraft series

In addition to the main characters, the "StarCraft" series also has a significant roster of supporting characters. These characters are usually main characters in their prospective source, for example Michael Liberty is the central character to "" and Jack Frost is a key character in "Insurrection" but neither have any major influence on the overall storyline outside these mediums. Whilst their contributions are noteworthy in expanding the universe, they can be regarded as minor characters within the entirety of the "StarCraft" series. This article contains an alphabetical list of minor characters in the three primary sources of the fictional "StarCraft" universe - the official games developed by Blizzard Entertainment, the novels licensed by Blizzard and published by Simon & Schuster, and the add-ons authorised by Blizzard.

In the official games

Adun

Adun is a legendary Protoss leader and a former executor of the templar caste. The Protoss, especially the templar caste, regard him as a hero and a demigod. In the history of "StarCraft", the Head of the Conclave Kortanul orders Adun to destroy a group of rogue tribescite book| last= Golden| first=Christie| title=StarCraft: The Dark Templar Saga #2: Shadow Hunters|publisher=Simon & Schuster| year=2007] to prevent a civil war over religion. After speaking with one of the rogues, Raszagal, Adun spares the rogues and teaches them to hide themselves and tries to show them the Khala's greater good that had led their race to unity. However, his plan backfires and psionic storms rage across Aiur without the training of the Khala to hone the rogues' skills. Unwilling to acknowledge their failure and the treachery of one of their warriors, Kortanul exiles the rogues from Aiur aboard a Xel'Naga craft. When Adun disregards his orders to not attend the exile, Kortanul strikes him, sparking a battle between the rogues and the Conclave. During the battle Adun sacrifices himself and unites the two types of psionic energy in his body in order to delay the Conclave and allow the rogues to escape, although he does so at the cost of his life. For his actions, the phrase "En Taro Adun" is used by the Protoss as a greetingcite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode III, mission 1: "First Strike"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e3_1 Transcript] .] and a war crycite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode III, mission 3: "Higher Ground| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e3_1 Transcript] .] . The phrase "Adun Toridas" is also used by the dark templar in both of these fashions. Besides these events, it is revealed in "Resurrection IV" that Adun fought beside Taldarin, who claimed to have done so three thousand years before "StarCraft"cite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 2000 | platform = N64 | level = Secret mission: "Resurrection IV"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#re_2 Transcript] .] , placing the time long before the incident with the dark templar. However, this timeline inconsistency has since been written off by Blizzard Entertainment, explaining that Taldarin's claim is false.

Daggoth

Daggoth is the highest ranking cerebrate in the "StarCraft" universe and the leader of the Tiamat brood, the largest and most powerful brood in the Zerg Swarm. Daggoth is voiced by Micky Neilson in "StarCraft". Described as one of the most strong-willed and ferocious cerebrates, Daggoth oversees the training of the player's charactercite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode II, mission 1: "Among the Ruins"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e2_1 Transcript] .] in the early parts of Episode II and assists in the protection of the chrysalis housing Sarah Kerrigancite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode II, mission 2: "Egression"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e2_2 Transcript] .] . Daggoth continues to act as an advisor for the player's character during most of the Zerg campaign, providing specially bred hydralisks as bodyguards to the fledging Kerrigancite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode II, mission 5: "The "Amerigo"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e2_5 Transcript] .] . Following the Zerg invasion of Aiur, Daggoth is charged with protecting the Overmind's core hive cluster.

In the wake of the Overmind's death, Daggoth orders several cerebrates to merge, forming a new Overmindcite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode IV, mission 4: "The Quest for Uraj"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e4_4 Transcript] .] and led the Swarm whilst it grew. However, the new Overmind is enslaved by the United Earth Directoratecite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode V, mission 8: "To Chain the Beast"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e5_8 Transcript] .] and eventually killed by the renegade Kerrigancite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode VI, mission 8: "To Slay the Beast"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e6_8 Transcript] .] . In "Brood War", Daggoth is only mentioned by Kerrigan and not seen, although Chris Metzen has revealed that Daggoth dies with the rest of the cerebrates in the aftermath of Kerrigan's take-over.cite web|url=http://www.sclegacy.com/content/interviews-6/scl-metzen-interview---lore-exclusive-28/|title="SC":L Tackles Chris Metzen: Lore Exclusive|publisher="StarCraft" Legacy|accessdate=2007-10-09|date= October 8 2007]

Khas

Khas is an important character in Protoss history, responsible for the Khala philosophy. Though first introduced in the "StarCraft" manual, his character is heavily expanded on in the novel ', in which his real name is revealed to be Savassan"'cite book|language=English|author=Golden, Christie|title=StarCraft: The Dark Templar Saga #1: Firstborn |publisher=Simon & Schuster|date=2007] , a member of the Shelak tribe, although in Protoss myth he is known as "Khas", which means "he who brings order". In the history of the series, Khas and his apprentice Temlaa discover that the Protoss psionic link - thought destroyed in the midst of civil war - had simply been rendered inaccessible by the disparate Protoss egos. Using a complex series of mathematics based on the golden ratio, Khas discovers that it could be revitalised through the use of Khaydarin crystals. He then begins to spread this knowledge through the Protoss youth.

Khas' actions mark the beginning of the Khala, a philosophy developed by Khas involving restructuring the Protoss into its caste based system, designed to remove the tribal separations and promote unity. Thanks to his efforts, the Protoss people turn more and more to the discipline of the Khala until they had put the Aeon of Strife behind them. However his philosophy also leads to the beginning of the dark templar, who reject it on the belief that the psionic link will strip them of their individuality. In October 2007 Chris Metzen revealed that Khas dies peacefully with his spirit becoming part of the communal Protoss consciousness that he had helped reestablish.

Angus Mengsk

Angus Mengsk is the father of Arcturus Mengsk and was a famous political figure from Korhal IV in the history of the series. Korhal IV was a loyal Confederate colony, but its citizens secretly despised Confederate rule. When security is tightened to avoid a rebellion, the tensions grow and the Korhal colony declares war on the Confederacy, with Mengsk leading the charge. Worried that the rebellion would inspire other colonies to do so, the Confederacy sends three elite ghost agents to assassinate Mengsk. His family is found killed and Mengsk himself had been decapitated - his head is never found. Afterwards a barrage of nuclear missiles bombards Korhal, destroying nearly all life on the surface. These actions would later cause Angus' son Arcturus to lead a second rebellion in his father's stead.

Doran Routhe

Doran Routhe plays a major role in the Terran history of the "StarCraft" universe. Routhe is an ambitious scientist under the United Powers League, the global government that takes control of Earth some time prior to "StarCraft". Whilst the UPL was undertaking a purification of the human gene pool by mass genocides, Routhe believed that the only way to secure more space for the growing population, as well as to further his own desires, is to colonize other planets. Using his influence, Routhe secretly acquires fifty-six thousand of the captured humans and loads forty thousand of them into super-carriers destined to Gantris IV, an outyling planet believed to be habitable. However, the ships malfunction and do not leave warp-space when required, sending them on to the Koprulu sector. When the media learn of these events, Routhe's reputation is instantly destroyed. Routhe ultimately dies in obscurity on a farming colony, although rumor develops that he was working on a new project just before his death. Despite being directly responsible for the Terran colonization of the sector, Routhe is never mentioned in-game.

elendis

Selendis is the commander-in-chief of the unified Protoss military in "StarCraft II". A female Protoss templar holding the rank of executor, she is revealed by Chris Metzen to be a student of Artanis and was elected to her position by the people. She is described as being fiercely loyal to her race's ideals and completely dedicated to her responsibilities. Her role in "StarCraft II" has not yet been revealed.

Taldarin

Taldarin is a crippled Protoss templar from the "StarCraft 64" secret mission "Resurrection IV", confined to a dragoon unit. In this mission he accompanies Jim Raynor on an expedition to find and de-infest Vice-Admiral Stukov. The two are successful in this mission, escaping from the planet Braxis before it is destroyed on the orders of Artanis. During the course of the mission Taldarin shows intrigue in human behaviour, in particular in the arrogance of one human attempting to assault Stukov's fortress single-handedly.

He also reveals his history to Raynor at the beginning of the mission, where he claims to be over three thousand years old and a personal friend of Adun. According to Taldarin, he has survived as he was mortally wounded in combat and spent millennia in a stasis cell until the life sustaining dragoon technology became available and he was able to rejoin the Protoss military. Taladrin's true age is never revealed, and the character has not been featured since "Resurrection IV".

Zasz

Zasz is a Zerg cerebrate and the leader of the Garm brood in the "StarCraft" universe and is described as a clever but somewhat questioning leader. Zasz performs first strike assaults for the Swarm.cite book| last= Underwood| first=Peter| coauthors=Roper, Bill; Metzen, Chris; Vaughn, Jeffrey| title=StarCraft (manual)| location=Irvine, Calif. | publisher=Blizzard Entertainment| year=1998] Zasz was voiced by Bill Roper for "StarCraft". Kerrigan often comes to blows with Zasz through Episode II over her impulsive and seemingly rebellious actions.cite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode II, mission 6: "The Dark Templar"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e2_6 Transcript] .] Despite the Overmind's assurance that Kerrigan is loyal, Zasz remains untrustingcite book| last= Rosenburg| first= Aaron| title=StarCraft: Queen of Blades| publisher=Simon & Schuster| year=2006] . Whilst Kerrigan is distracted by attacking Tassadar, Zasz is attacked by Zeratul and slain.cite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode II, mission 7: "The Culling"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e2_7 Transcript] .]

Despite being relatively unimportant, Zasz's death gives the Overmind and Zeratul a temporary mental link, allowing the Overmind to find and invade Aiur, cite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode II, mission 8: "Eye for an Eye"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e2_8 Transcript] .] and Zeratul to learn the origins of the Zerg and how to kill them.cite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Episode III, mission 9: "Shadow Hunters"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#e3_9 Transcript] .] In essence, Zasz's death sparks one of the largest battles in the Brood War. Zasz's final recorded words are to Kerrigan, proclaiming she "would be the doom of us all". Ironically, following Kerrigan's rise to power at the culmination of "Brood War", Zasz is proven correct.

Atticus Carpenter

Atticus Carpenter is the overriding antagonist in "Insurrection". A Terran ghost agent aged thirty-eight, Carpenter is the ringleader of the Fist of Redemption, an insurgent group on Brontes IV who believe that the Zerg are the saviours of humanity. Carpenter himself was originally in the employ of the Confederacy until his psychic control implants malfunction, resulting in the murder of his superiors. Although he initially appears in-game as a ghost agent, Carpenter later appears as a Zerg cerebrate.

Carpenter and his forces are always in the background throughout "Insurrection"'s storyline. Uncovered by an investigation into a missing patrolcite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 2: "Rebel Installation"| language = English] , the Fist of Redemption is the primary target for the colonial militia during the early parts of the Terran campaign. Despite taking substantial losses through these missions, the Fist of Redemption remains strong, with Carpenter even being able to launch a direct - if unsuccessful - assault on the colony's primary military basecite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 5: "The Confederate Militia"| language = English] . Carpenter is also able to bring the Hammer strike force over to his side, using it to target his enemies in the militiacite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 10: "Rebellion"| language = English] . After the main Fist of Redemption stronghold is destroyed by Jack Frost's militia, Carpenter allows himself to be consumed by the Zerg cerebrate Auza. However, Auza is unable to assimilate Carpenter, whose unique psionic power ends up taking control of the cerebrate and thereby the entire Incubus broodcite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Protoss campaign, mission 8: "Carpenter's Downfall"| language = English] . Although both the Terrans and the Protoss attempt to destroy Carpenter's new brood, they are unable to and are eventually defeated by other Zerg forces. However, the Overmind perceives Carpenter as a major threat, and has the Incubus brood destroyed. Unable to hold back the Swarm, Carpenter is ultimately killed when the cerebrate's body is destroyedcite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Zerg campaign, mission 10: "The Time to Strike"| language = English] .

Edullon

Edullon is the primary Protoss protagonist in "Insurrection", a templar ground commander of the Seventh Fleet forces alongside her father Demioch, under the command of the fleet's executor, Andraxxus. Along with the fleet's judicator advisor Syndrea, they are notable for being the first female Protoss characters portrayed in the series, preceding Raszagal in "". In-game, Edullon appears as a zealot.

Edullon, Demioch and the archon Aedus/Xerxes are dispatched by Syndrea on missions to the surface of Brontes IV early in the Protoss campaign. During her missions against the Zerg, Edullon comes into contact and mutally allies with the Terran militia commanded by Jack Frost. Edullon later departs in search of Demioch, who Syndrea claims was killed in the course of duty cite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Protoss campaign, mission 4: "In Search of Demioch"| language = English] , but Edullon discovers that her father is held in captivity by the Fist of Redemption and proceeds to free him with the assistance of Charlie Vane.

Upon returning, Edullon objects to Syndrea heavy-handed tactics of indiscriminate attacks against both the Zerg and Terrans, but is branded as a traitor by the judicatorcite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Protoss campaign, mission 7: "Defense"| language = English] . Edullon herself takes Demioch and her forces, along with Frost and the remaining Terran militia, to attack the forces of Carpenter - now in control of the Incubus brood due to a miscalculation in his assimilation by the cerebrate Auza. As the allied Protoss and militia forces rest after this battle, they are hit by a surprise attack from Aedus/Xerxes and Syndrea's vanguardcite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Protoss campaign, mission 9: "Syndrea's Assault"| language = English] . Despite heavy losses the combined forces of the Terrans and Protoss defeat the vanguard's assault and Edullon slays Aedus/Xerxes in hand-to-hand combat. However, during the final Zerg assault on the primary Protoss encampment, Edullon falls in battle along with her Protoss comrades and Terran allies.

Jack Frost

Jack Frost is the primary Terran protagonist in "Insurrection" and a thirty-eight year old retired lieutenant of the Brontes colonial militia. Described as "having written the book on colonial warfare"cite book| title=Insurrection (manual)| author=Milner, Lesley| publisher=Aztech New Media| year=1998] , and brought out of retirement by the colony's marshal, Frost is tasked with putting down a rising insurgent threat from the Fist of Redemptioncite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 3: "Jack's Back"| language = English] . After several missions against the Fist of Redemption, Frost is conscripted in to lead the Delta squadron strike force "the Hammer"cite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 6: "The Call of Duty"| language = English] , but deserts after being ordered to destroy civilian targetscite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 7: "Hammer Strike Force"| language = English] by his superiors and assists the colonists in escaping the Hammer with Black Morgancite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 8: "New Dresdin"| language = English] . As the Zerg threat to the colony increases, Frost destroys the Hammer's headquarters using tactical nuclear missiles in hope that the Hammer would then return to its original task of protecting the peoplecite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 9: "The Council Steadfast"| language = English] , but discovers that they are in fact in league with the Fist of Redemptioncite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Terran campaign, mission 11: "Attack and Destroy"| language = English] . In response, Frost launches an assault on the primary Fist of Redemption stronghold and is successful in destroying the Hammer and killing the leading collaborator, Tsuname.

Frost later allies himself with the Protoss fleet commanded by Andraxxuscite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Protoss campaign, mission 3: "Dead New Dresdin"| language = English] , but both forces are gradually beaten back by the Fist of Redemption and the Zergcite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Zerg campaign, mission 6: "Complete Ruins"| language = English] . Ultimately, Black Morgan is infestedcite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Zerg campaign, mission 5: "Terran Remains"| language = English] and unintentionally leads the Zerg to Frost, who in turn leads them to Andraxxuscite video game | title = Insurrection | developer = Aztech New Media | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = Zerg campaign, mission 9: "The Ultimate Conquest"| language = English] . As this last Protoss emcampment is being destroyed by the Zerg, Frost detonates the fuel tanks on his firebat suit, killing both himself and his immediate attackers.

Mojo

Mojo is a male Protoss and one of the protagonists in the "Enslavers" campaign for the original "StarCraft". In the campaign, Mojo is a praetor in the vanguard of Aiur and is represented in-game by a scout-class starfighter. He is first seen in "Enslavers" when he makes contact with the Dominion, warning them not to kill a Zerg cerebrate Alan Schezar had gained control ofcite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = "Enslavers" bonus campaign, mission 2a: "Playing with Fire"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#en_2a Transcript] .] . In the canonical events of the campaign, Mojo is rescued from Schezar's captivity along with the reaver "Warbringer" and the arbiter-class starship "Danimoth", later leading a joint Terran and Protoss force against Schezar's group on Aiurcite video game | title = StarCraft | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = "Enslavers" bonus campaign, mission 3b: "The Final Blow"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#en_3b Transcript] .] , destroying Schezar's forces and his abilities to control the Zerg.

Mojo also makes a brief appearance in one mission of the sequel to "Enslavers", "Dark Vengeance", where he works with Zeratul and leads an attack on Schezar's forces on Korhal IVcite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = "Enslavers: Dark Vengeance" bonus campaign, mission 3: "Nemesis"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#en_dv3 Transcript] .] .

Alan Schezar

Alan (or Allen) Schezar is the primary antagonist of the "Enslavers" campaign. A smuggler and crime lord, Schezar's character is named after a character of the same name in "The Vision of Escaflowne" and he appears in-game piloting a goliath combat walker. Somehow able to build a base on Aiur during the Zerg invasion, Schezar steals Khaydarin amulets from a Protoss temple and uses them to control a Zerg cerebrate. Despite the ability to reinforce his men with Zerg, a Dominion task force allies with the Protoss under Mojo and destroys the cerebrate along with Schezar's base, although Schezar himself escapes.

In "Enslavers: Dark Vengeance", Schezar is contracted to free Ulrezaj from capitivity on Shakuras and assists him in assaulting the Khalai Protoss on the surface. However, Ulrezaj has Schezar's goliath rigged with a bomb to ensure continued loyaltycite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = "Enslavers: Dark Vengeance" bonus campaign, mission 5b: "Dark Vengeance"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#en_dv5b Transcript] .] . Schezar successfully captures numerous Zerg on Char using a stolen Khaydarin crystal for Ulrezaj and also builds an EMP device capable of disabling Protoss shields. In the canonical ending, he remains loyal to Ulrezaj even after the Protoss reclaim the Khaydarin crystal and as a result remove Ulrezaj's Zerg reinforcements. Schezar is later killed in a battle to defend the EMP device.

Ulrezaj

Ulrezaj is the primary antagonist of the "Enslavers: Dark Vengeance" bonus campaign. In-game he appears initially as a dark templar and later as a dark archon, a being of tremendous psionic power comprised of the minds of six other dark templar.

Ulrezaj is the leader of a minority of dark templar who want Shakuras cleaned of the Khalai Protoss in retaliation for the exile of the dark templar from Aiur. First revealing himself by attacking a rescue operation on Aiurcite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = "Enslavers: Dark Vengeance" bonus campaign, mission 1: "The Rescue"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#en_dv1 Transcript] .] , he is imprisoned on Shakuras but forcibly freed by a Terran fleet under the command of Alan Schezarcite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = "Enslavers: Dark Vengeance" bonus campaign, mission 2: "Hung Jury"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#en_dv2 Transcript] .] . Despite being opposed by Zeratul, Ulrezaj forms a two-stage plan with the help of Schezar. Building an orbital base over Shakuras, Ulrezaj's forces use copied Khaydarin crystals to mutate Zerg in order to attack the Khalai Protoss on the surface whilst Schezar employs an EMP device to disable the Protoss power networks on the planet. In the canonical ending of the campaign, the Protoss reclaim the Khaydarin crystal and in the process preventing Ulrezaj from employing Zerg reinforcements in his plans. The combined forces of Schezar and Ulrezajcite video game | title = | developer = Blizzard Entertainment | year = 1998 | platform = PC | level = "Enslavers: Dark Vengeance" bonus campaign, mission 4b: "Turnabout"| language = English [http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#en_dv4b Transcript] .] , proceed to besiege the Protoss on an orbital base above Shakuras, with the EMP device severely hampering the Protoss war effort. However, the Protoss are successful in defeating Ulrezaj's forces and destroying the EMP device along with Schezar, although Ulrezaj manages to escape and flees into space.

Ulrezaj appears in the novel "Shadow Hunters" as a primary antagonist. Here he is a dark archon composed of seven dark templar with his former dark templar self as the dominant personality, although how he achieved such a union is unknown to the Protoss; archons are normally formed of only two templar. Ulrezaj is on Aiur in the novel and living in the cave system where Khas discovered the khaydarin crystals. Although the protagonists of the novel discover containers of mysterious black liquid around a large shard of khaydarin, as well as the fact that Ulrezaj has killed several Protoss, the purpose of these actions is not investigated. Ulrezaj ultimately attacks the protagonists as they flee to a warp gate, utilizing incredible psionic power to easily destroy his enemies. However, he is caught in a massive storm of psychic energy as the protagonists escape, and his ultimate fate is not revealed.

After escaping, Dahl and Ramsey take refuge on Dead Man's Rock in the care of her lover Ethan Stewart"'. After Ramsey discovers that Stewart is planning to betray them, Dahl shoots Stewart in the chest and leaves the planet.

Dahl and Ramsey go to Aiur, where Dahl's history with stimpacks abuse and addiction to other drugs become a critical character flaw. He is the one of two characters in the series to be introduced in the novels and carried on into later video games.

Horner's appearances in "Queen of Blades" are relatively brief. Whilst under attack from the Zerg on Char, Raynor gives Horner an order to withdraw the "Hyperion" from the system in order to prevent the ship from being attacked as well, but thereby stranding Raynor on the surface. Horner does so by executing an emergency warp jump and despite the dangers this reckless action faces, he is successful in doing so. Horner reappears with the "Hyperion" at the end of the novel, a good number of months later, in order to evacuate the survivors. At Blizzcon in August 2007, Horner's character was revealed to continue with a similar role in "StarCraft II"cite video | title = [http://www.gamespot.com/video/939643/6176222/ "StarCraft II" Under Construction] | medium = Development commentary | publisher = GameSpot | people=Pardo, Rob | date=August 2007 | location = Blizzcon | date = 2007-08-03 | accessdate = 2007-08-04 ] and is described as acting as Raynor's consciencecite video | | title = [http://starcraft.incgamers.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=303&cat=514 "StarCraft" lore panel] | medium = Panel discussion recording | publisher = IncGamers | people=Metzen, Chris; Chambers, Andy | date=August 2007 | location = Blizzcon | date = 2007-08-03 | accessdate = 2007-08-07 ] and trying to keep his commander focused.

Whilst on the "Norad II", Liberty witnesses first contact with the Protoss when they nearly attack Duke's fleet at Mar Sara. Once on the planet, he makes contact with Marshal Jim Raynor and Sons of Korhal operative Sarah Kerrigan. After Raynor is arrested by General Duke, Liberty elects to embed himself with the Sons of Korhal, promising to work with Arcturus Mengsk to "make him look good". In return, Mengsk helps him rescue his friend Raynor from Duke's prison ship.

Present for most of the important events of Episode I, he witnesses Mengsk abandoning Kerrigan to the Zerg on the space platform "New Gettysberg" over Tarsonis. He escapes and uses his media influence to produce truthful and incriminating broadcasts on Mengsk and the Terran Dominion. Liberty has made cameos in ', ' and "".

Ardo Melnikov

Ardo Melnikov is the main character of the novel Speed of Darkness. Drafted into the Terran Confederacy's marine corps after losing his girlfriend and family to the Zerg, Ardo is sent to the Confederate colony world of Mar Sara which has recently been overrun by the Zerg. After a trip to the re-socializion tanks - designed to implant experience with weapons and combat suits, as well as good feelings and duty to the Confederacy - Ardo is sent on a mission to retrieve a box from the small settlement of Oasis, located in a big crater. Ardo inadverdently disturbs the Zerg hive under Oasis, and half the unit is killed before the box (along with Merdith, a survivor) is found and they reach the extraction zone. Their dropship, however, is gone. Surrounded by Zerg, Ardo and his unit decides to fight their way out, and upon reaching the lip of the crater is overtaken by the Zerg. Luckily, a tactical nuke impacts on oasis, killing most of the zerg there and allowing Ardo's unit to escape.

Back at the base, which is mysteriously abandoned, Merdith eplains that the box is in fact a psi emitter and that, if activated, it will lure every Zerg on the planet to their location. She also tells Ardo that his memories of his life before becoming a marine are false overlays, and he remembers the true story about being dragged from his girlfriend and family by Confederate conscriptors. Ardo and his unit soon finds out that the base is empty because the Confederacy is leaving the planet, leaving the civilians to the Zerg. Ardo's unit learn that they were supposed to be left behind along with the box to destroy all evidence of the weapon (the Confederacy lured the Zerg to the planet as a weapons test). Ardo learns about the Sons of Korhal's attempt to evacuate the civilian population, and knowing they themselves don't stand a chance of reaching the transports, Ardo's unit decides to activate psi emitter, drawing the Zerg away from the cities and thus buying the transporters more time to evacuate, saving thousands of lifes. Ardo and his unit mounts a formiddable defense against the Zerg but are overrun just as the last transport is seen far away leaving the planet.

Jake Ramsey

Jacob Jefferson Ramsey is the main character in "". An archaeologist infamous for outlandish theories, Jake is hired by Valerian Mengsk to investigate a temple on a planet called Nemeka. After entering the inner-most chamber, Ramsey finds the corpse of a Protoss and has their mind forced inside his own. Under the psychic tutelage of the Protoss Zamara, Ramsey becomes a Preserver, a being with the memories of all deceased Protoss in their minds. Zamara claims to have a mission of dire importance, but does not tell Ramsey what it is, although she claims to be willing to go to extreme lengths to complete this mission.

After giving Ramsey a series of memories about Protoss history, he receives the full extent of Zamara's psychic powers. Afterwards, the two travel to Aiur to explore a series of underground caves. On Aiur, Zamara admits to Ramsey that the force of his brain being forced to accommodate her mind and her power has caused a critical brain tumor that grows each time Ramsey experiences a memory, and unless they find help from the dark templar on Shakuras soon, it will be inoperable and his life will be forfeit. To this end, Zamara acquires a pure shard of khaydarin crystal with the intent of transferring her consciousness into it, and the second novel ends with Ramsey leaping into a warp gate to Shakuras.

Ethan Stewart

Ethan Stewart is a minor antagonist in "". A high-profile member of the black market, Stewart is not a telepath but is highly disciplined both mentally and physically, and is very intelligent and has enormous wealth and influence. Stewart is a former partner and lover of R.M. Dahl, and although they are no longer partners they are still lovers on occasion. When Dahl brings Jake Ramsey to Stewart's home on Dead Man's Rock, he shelters them but uses a psi-screen to block Jake's telepathy while informing Valerian Mengsk of their whereabouts. When Dahl and Ramsey discover Stewart's betrayal, Dahl shoots him in the stomach and leaves him to die as they escape.

In the second novel, Stewart is rushed into surgery and narrowly saved. Shortly after the surgery, Zerg attack the lab and capture Stewart in a cocoon. Brought before Sarah Kerrigan on Char, Stewart is eventually infested and reborn as a four-armed Infested Terran with great physical strength and intellect. After his rebirth, Kerrigan becomes aware that Stewart is borderline insane as a result of his psi-screen usage while human, but nonetheless considers his infestation a success. Informing Stewart of his purpose as her general and consort, Kerrigan sends him to Aiur to capture Dahl and Ramsey and bring them to her. Although Stewart and a large number of Zerg attack Aiur, his forces are devastated by a massive psionic storm as Dahl and Ramsey escape. Stewart himself is injured, but survives and is determined not to disappoint Kerrigan again.
