In April 2008, the team once again participated in the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship, with the hope of reaching their first ever World Cup. On this occasion, the team played above expectations, and although they lost their opening game 4-2 to CONCACAF powerhouse Mexico, they went on to defeat raining CONCACAF and CONMEBOL Beach soccer champions the USA (5-6), and Costa Rica (3-4) to finish second in the group; and qualified them along with Mexico to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup to be held in France in July 2008. Adding to the groups outstanding achievements, two of it's players also picked up individual awards, with Luis Rodas being named Goalkeeper of the tournament, and José Ruiz winning the Golden Boot, for scoring the most goals (6 in total). ref|Awards08
