Totally Official Summer Doldrums Competition

The Totally Official Summer Doldrums Competition is a quiz game taking place each August or September in the usenet newsgroup alt.usage.english. The questions are occasionally easy but often quite abstruse or on obscure and erudite topics.

Normally one drops everything and employs all of the resources of the internet and the world's libraries to find the answer to a question, only to find that someone else has beaten one to it and earned the sheep.
