square mile s (520square kilometre s), and is bound bynatural borders on all four sides: the Red River on the south; anoutcrop of granite mountains on the east that run from the Red River 20 miles (32 km) northward; the North Fork of the Red River on the north, which runs ten miles (16 km); and atributary of the North Fork of the Red River is Buttermilk Creek, which serves as the western boundary.
