Richard Rose (born 8 April 1933) is an American political scientist who is currently Director of the Centre for the Study of Public Policy and
Professorof Politics at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He studied as an undergraduate at Johns Hopkins Universityand completed his PhDat the University of Oxford.cite web|url=http://www.abdn.ac.uk/cspp/rrcv.shtml|title=Professor Richard Rose|publisher=Centre for the Study of Public Policy, University of Aberdeen|accessdate=2008-04-10] He has conducted research on a wide range of topics, including the Northern Ireland conflict, EU enlargement, democratisation, electionsand voting. He was formerly Professor of Politics at the University of Strathclyde, a position he held from 1966 to 2005, and Lecturerin Government at the University of Manchester, from 1961 to 1966.
Rose was made a Foreign Member of the
Finnish Academy of Science and Lettersin 1985, Honorary Vice President of the Political Studies Associationin 1986, a Fellowof the British Academyin 1992, an Honorary Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciencesin 1994, and a Fellow of the Academy of Learned Societies for the Social Sciencesin 2000. In 2000, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Political Studies Association.
